7 Reasons Not to Wait Too Long to Start Dating After Divorce

I have been with my Boyfriend or Best Friend for awhile now, but I have caught a lot of slack for it because of when we met. Yes, I am the first person that he went out with after he became separated from the XW. My friends are still months later telling me that I need to watch out and that I cannot possibly be the one for him since we met right out of the gate. The thing is this: They met young and had totally different views on everything. He says the marriage was never good and he knew a year before the separation that things were over.

Then I come along…we met a month after she moved out a lot of her stuff was still in the house, etc. We were both hesitant to get into something romantic right away given his situation, but after 3 weeks of hanging out days a week just as friends no touching, just hours and hours of fun and deep conversation we kissed and became a couple. He started talking about wanting to marry me about 3 months into our relationship. I felt the same. So now that you read all that, I guess my question is, is anyone marrying the first person they dated after their separation started?

I hate to think that what he is feeling cannot possibly be real and that I am in some sort of fantasy relationship that will turn out badly. I have done a lot of dating and I cannot possibly think of a better match for me. I actually met my husband 3 months after I separated from my ex.

After being separated 1 month, I dated a few guys — just one time dates.

Each one had something I did not like right off the bat. There was one emotional oneline thing in there but it could never be more than what is was, so I ended that. Then I met my H. I knew of him through mutual friends.

After he wanted to date me exclusively this is at month 4 of my single hood, month 1 of us hanging out , I told him to hold on and I got my divorce finalized. I was just delaying the inevitable because I know the divorce would get sticky, but I got it done ASAP when he wanted to date just me.

More for his sake, not yours. Im in a similar position…. We were both just out of serious relationships and neither wanted anything serious, but it just naturally grew into the best thing we have both ever had. I left my XH a few years ago. About 3 weeks after I left XH, my husband and I started dating. However, because rebound relationships are based on filling a void, rather than being ready to move on, they often fall apart quickly.

Instead of facing more loss, take time to grieve the loss of your marriage first. Then, begin dating casually. To deal with the very real stress of divorce, talk to friends, family, or a therapist instead; these people can offer support without feeling burdened. Separation is a time to grieve your divorce.
